POR-15 Top Coat DTM paint (formerly FlexCote, BlackCote) is a direct-to-metal coating designed to work on prepped bare metal and work incredibly well in all applications where there is a need to help preserve substrates susceptible to corrosion. POR-15 Top Coat safety colors comply with OSHA required/recommended color codes for marking physical hazards and designating caution, to include protective equipment.

Under exterior exposure POR-15 Top Coat has exceptional long-term sheen and color retention. POR-15 Top Coat can be applied directly to metal substrates or previously painted surfaces, with no need for a primer or undercoat, and is formulated to form a robust barrier that sheds moisture to provide long-lasting protection. POR-15 Top Coat provides excellent adhesion and when used over POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating, works to provide a permanent barrier to corrosion.

Best stuff ever. You can't go wrong with POR-15. This is a great system for keeping your vehicle rust free.

Good Product

I’ve used POR15 before and with great results. This time it didn’t seem as “self leveling” before, but maybe it was my technique. But with POR 15 I know my work is protected and will look good for years to come.

Durable

Most durable metal coating I've found short of powder coat. It's a finicky paint though. I did not find great luck with double coats in the 2 hour window. The second coat almost won't bond. It does, but it looks like orange peel 9when the first coat look glassy smooth). So, if second coating, definitely wait 24hr, scuff, and then repaint 9per the directions).

Thats why I bought it over and over...

Used this (in several colors) from spray to brush-on on many different surfaces. LONG lasting, durable and strong coating, Glad this product exists. (Follow instructions).
The first generation of this stuff (that I can remember) was a two part epoxy. I bought it at the local auto parts store for the first time to do wrought iron railings The paint never dried. I did not know it was a two part product as the sales person never gave me part "B". I was livid and let them know. I finished that project with another product, but gave POR-15 another try. I got white (2 part at the time) and used it on wood trim around an entrance door. Can't remember when they stopped or if they stopped the 2 part product, but this was years ago and the white has not faded or chipped. Win-win and I don't have to do maintenance like in the past! Lately I had ordered a product and they said it was my fault (I try and do research before I buy) and I do not like being told "I was wrong" but ate it up. I know I would use the "wrong" stuff somewhere which I did. But, I went back and bought more. They can't return their product do to shipping hazardous stuff, blah, blah blah, research that. But research your product and this stuff is great.

Surface Preparation:

All surfaces must be clean and free of all dirt, loose rust, oil, grease, wax, soap, loose paint and any other matter.

Previously Painted Areas: Scuff surface with 320 grit sand paper. Use POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser and POR-15 Metal Prep. Let surface dry thoroughly.

Bare Steel or Aluminum: Clean and prep surface then let dry thoroughly. For ultimate protection apply POR-15 RustPreventive Coating after surface preparation and then apply POR-15 Top Coat.

Application: Stir POR-15 Top Coat before and during use, DO NOT SHAKE. Using a pouring spout, dispense a portion into a separate container and seal can at once, keeping lid and grooves clean. Do not paint out of can. Apply POR-15 Top Coat in two thin covering coats. Spray: Use 25-30 lbs (170Kpa-210pa) pressure for normal gloss.

Roller: Use all-purpose short nap phenolic core roller.

Dry time: It cures to touch in 30-60 minutes. Second coat can be applied in 2-72 hours, depending on ambient temperature and humidity. POR-15 Top Coat can take 3-4 days to reach maximum hardness, and longer in temperatures below 55°F (15°C).

Cleanup: Do not put leftover paint back into can. Clean all equipment immediately after use with POR-15 Solvent. Flush out all fluid lines and carefully clean pressure pots. Use clean solvent only. It is also good practice to periodically clean the spray tip or the fluid tip / air cap combination during the course of the working day.
