POR-15 Top Coat DTM Paint (previously FlexCote, BlackCote) is a premium single stage direct-to-metal (DTM), UV-resistant coating designed to offer unmatched protection on properly prepared bare metal or primed surfaces. Ideal for automotive, light-duty industrial, agriculture, and other applications, POR-15 Top Coat delivers exceptional durability, ensuring long-lasting defense against harsh environmental elements. When used with the POR-15 Stop Rust System, it effectively prevents oxidation and shields surfaces from harmful UV radiation, making it the go-to solution for outdoor exposure and extreme conditions.
Under prolonged outdoor UV exposure, POR-15 Top Coat maintains superior color retention and long-term sheen. This high-performance DTM coating can be applied directly to properly prepped metal or over roughened painted surfaces without the need for a primer, forming a moisture-repelling barrier for lasting protection. Its exceptional adhesion and weather resistance make it ideal for use over POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating System, offering long-lasting defense for various substrates in challenging environments.
POR-15 Top Coat safety colors comply with OSHA required/recommended color codes for marking physical hazards and designating caution, to include protective equipment.
Liquid Coverage: 240 sq ft per gallon at 3 mil thickness
Temperature Resistance:
Discoloration at 350°F (176.6°C)
Adhesion failure at 400°F (204.4°C)
For thinning use: POR-15 Reducer Solvent up to 10%
For surfaces subjected to extreme wear, frequent impacts, or exposure to harsh chemicals, consider our 2K Urethane industrial topcoat. This two-part system is specially engineered to deliver enhanced performance in demanding environments, providing even greater protection for the most intense conditions.
SURFACE PREPARATION: All surfaces must be clean and free of all dirt, loose rust, oil, grease, wax, soap, loose paint, and any other matter.
Previously Painted Areas: Scuff surface with 180-220 grit sandpaper or scuff pad. Use POR-15® Cleaner Degreaser and POR-15® Metal Prep. Let the surface dry thoroughly and apply two thin coats.
Bare Steel or Aluminum: Scuff surface with 180-220 grit sandpaper or scuff pad. Use POR-15® Cleaner Degreaser and POR-15® Metal Prep, then let dry thoroughly and apply three thin coats.
For Corrosion Protection: Apply POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating to bare metal after POR-15® Cleaner Degreaser and POR-15® Metal Prep applications. When the POR-15 Rust Preventive coating is dry to the touch but is still tacky (has a finger drag), it is the best time to apply a second coat and a topcoat. If the Rust Preventive Coating fully cures, scuff it with 240-320 grit. Take care not to penetrate down to metal surface. Apply two thin covering coats of POR-15® Top Coat over the POR-15® Rust Preventive Coating. (*Only Opaque Topcoat colors have enough UV protection for the Rust Preventive Coating)
LIQUID APPLICATION:
Follow surface prep directions. Stir POR-15® Top Coat until all solids are dissolved before and during use; DO NOT SHAKE. Using a pouring spout, dispense a portion into a separate container and seal the can at once, keeping the lid and grooves clean. Do not paint out of the can. Apply POR-15® Top Coat in two to three thin covering coats. Thin with POR-15® Reducer Solvent up to 10% if necessary. Spray: Use 25-30 lbs (170Kpa-210pa) pressure for normal gloss. Roller: Use an all-purpose short nap phenolic core roller. Use when surface to be painted, can, and outside temperature, are between 60˚F and 90˚F (21˚C and 32˚C).
DRY TIME: It cures to touch in 30-60 minutes. Depending on ambient temperature and humidity, a second or third coat can be applied when the previous coat is dry; Usually after 2 hours. The second or third coats can be applied up to 72 hours after the previous coat(s). POR-15® Top Coat can take 3-4 days to reach maximum hardness, and longer in temperatures below 55°F (15°C).
CLEANUP: Do not put leftover paint back into can. Clean all equipment immediately after use with an appropriate cleaner or POR-15® Reducer Solvent. Flush out all fluid lines and carefully clean pressure pots. Use clean solvent only. It is also good practice to periodically clean the spray tip or the fluid tip/air cap combination during the course of the working day.
AEROSOL APPLICATION:
Follow surface prep directions. Protect surrounding areas from spray mist. For corrosion protection use the Stop Rust Preventive System as an undercoat. Use when surface to be painted, spray can, and outside temperature, are between 60˚F and 90˚F (21˚C and 32˚C). Shake can at least one minute before and occasionally during use. Spray surface with steady, even strokes at a distance of 6 to 10 inches. Several light coats give a better finish than one heavy coat.
DRY TIME: It cures to touch in 30-60 minutes. Second coat can be applied in 1-24 hours, depending on ambient temperature and humidity. POR-15® Top Coat can take 3-4 days to reach max hardness, and longer in temperatures below 55°F (15°C).
CLEANUP: To prevent clogs in spray nozzle, hold can upside down and spray until clear gas appears. Completely empty cans may be recycled or disposed of with regular trash. Dispose of partially empty cans responsibly. DO NOT puncture, incinerate or compact.
