POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser (formerly marine-clean) cleans and degreases in one application without leaving residues, noxious fumes, or flammable solvents. No other cleaner works as fast or as well. It makes petroleum-based cleaners almost obsolete because POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser can be diluted with water up to 4 to 10 times its volume while remaining more potent than other cleaners. This water-based and non-solvent cleaner removes grease, oil, mildew, algae, musty odors, soap films, wax. Use this paint-safe degreaser to clean canvas, vinyl, nylon, holding tanks, grease traps, auto parts, and more.

Adhesion is important with most paints but has to be perfect for POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating to achieve its maximum effectiveness. A solvent wipe before painting didn't work with POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating; in the lab we found it did more harm than good by leaving a residue that didn't help with adhesion or appearance. We had to come up with a substance that would clean metal without leaving a residue. What we developed, POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser, contradicts all accepted theories about metal prep products: its water-based, not solvent-based and it cleans without leaving residues. In laboratory adhesion tests, our POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating using POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser first to clean the bare metal far exceeded every other prep product we found in the marketplace.

TIP: When applying to Aluminum or other alloys for clear coating, first test on an inconspicuous area for staining or discoloration. If staining or discoloration occurs, dilute Cleaner Degreaser 50% with water and retest.

Old well pipe

I repurposed and welded some old galvanized well pipe into a rolling driveway gate. I live close to the ocean and want to insure longevity and protection from salt air. To insure against any rust I decided to use the “cleaner degreaser “ and the “metal prep” before applying the “rust preventative”. As suggested, I then applied a UV protection paint. We’ll see how it works out.

Cleaner Degreaser

I think the cleaner degreaser did a great job. Along with the metal prep hopefully the surface is prepared well enough that the POR 15 will bond and last for a few years. I used this product for the top rails of my above ground pool, particularly the edge closest to the water (the only part visibly rusted). The rails are constantly subjected to both water and chlorine, especially when the winter cover is on. Time will tell.

POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser should be diluted with hot water. Four parts water to one part Cleaner Degreaser (4:1) works well for most jobs; but may be diluted up to ten parts water to one part Cleaner Degreaser (10:1). After using Cleaner Degreaser rinse job thoroughly with water. Metal Surfaces cleaned with Cleaner Degreaser should always then be treated with POR-15 Metal Prep before painting.

Caution Cleaner Degreaser may stain alloy surfaces.
