Detail Paint
Painted motorcycle forks , people think there powered coated
When I started using POR-15 in the mid '90s the selection was small. The detail paints are a great addition to the product line! The cast aluminum color was used to return a '67 Ford C6 transmission to its original appearance with excellent results. The nozzle atomized the paint perfectly & the product cured well with no runs, pops or cracking. Seems to be holding up like any other POR-15 product-exceptionally well!
I had two sentimental pieces of cast iron from my childhood home (a boot scraper and an owl). They are quite old and were very rusty. They were headed to the landfill until I snagged them. After using POR’s metal prep product (very easy), I sprayed on several coats of the spray paint (which was also very easy). The hardest part was finding things from which I could suspend the items I was painting. The owl and the boot scraper look new! You can see the intricate pattern on the boot scraper and even feathers on the owl! Like magic, my childhood came back. :-)
Surface must be clean, dry and free of oil and other contaminants before painting. Use POR-15 Cleaner Degreaser to clean metal. Protect surrounding areas from spray mist. If being used to topcoat POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating, spray while POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating is dry to the touch with slight finger drag, normally 2 – 6 hours. If POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating has dried, wait 24 hours then lightly sand or scuff surface with pad or 320 sand paper. If scuffing or sanding is not desired, use POR-15 Self Etching Primer over cured POR-15 Rust Preventive Coating without sanding, then topcoat over the primer with POR-15 Detail Paint.
Cleanup: To prevent clogs in spray nozzle, hold can upside down and spray until clear gas appears. Completely empty cans may be recycled or disposed of with regular trash. Dispose of partially empty cans responsibly. DO NOT puncture, incinerate or compact.
